skipped my warm-up once this week and paid for it

Not going to pretend I'm always disciplined about it. Tuesday I was running late, figured I'd just go straight into the WOD, told myself it'll be fine. It was not fine. Pulled something in my left shoulder on the second set of overhead squats. Nothing serious but it was tight for the rest of the session and honestly killed my focus. I basically spent the whole AMRAP favouring one side which is its own kind of nightmare. The thing is I know this. I've been doing CrossFit long enough to know that my body does not just... switch on. Especially in the mornings. I need at minimum 10-12 minutes of actual movement before I touch a barbell — some hip circles, thoracic rotations, a bit of banded work, empty bar practice if we're going overhead. Nothing glamorous. It just has to happen. What I've noticed this year is that my warm-up has basically become the thing that decides how the session goes. Not the WOD itself, not even what I ate beforehand. It's those first 10-15 minutes. When I rush them I'm slower, sloppier, and I almost always end the session feeling worse than when I came in. When I actually do them properly I hit my PRs. That's not a coincidence at this point. Anyway. Lesson re-learned. Back to not being an idiot about it.

same thing happened to me bouldering last month, skipped the easy traversing and went straight for a project, tweaked my finger on the second attempt. out for two weeks after that, proper annoying

aye the shoulder favouring thing mid-session is the worst, your whole movement pattern goes off and you feel it for days after
