skin felt properly rough this week
Honestly the transition between seasons does something weird to my skin every single year and I never quite remember until it happens. One week I'm fine, next week my face feels like I've been sandpapering it. Which, to be fair, running into cold headwind on the fells for two hours probably isn't helping.
I think the thing I always forget is that the skin needs a bit of time to catch up. Like your body is still operating on summer rules — lighter moisturiser, less fuss — but the air's already dropped and the wind up here gets properly biting from September onwards. I switched back to a heavier cream earlier this year than usual and it made a difference within a few days. Not dramatic, just... less tight after washing my face in the morning.
The other thing I've noticed is hydration from the inside actually matters more in autumn I think. Summer you're sweating loads so you drink loads. Autumn you don't feel as thirsty but you're still out running in cold dry air for hours and it shows on your skin eventually. I've been more deliberate about getting enough fluids in after long runs. My matcha in the morning helps me feel like I've done something useful before 8am which is. you know. a low bar but I'll take it.
Also stopped using anything with fragrance on my face for now. Had a bit of a reaction a few weeks back and I think it was just my skin being more sensitive with the change. Could be coincidence but I'm not risking it until things settle down.
