savoury oats. hear me out.

Right so I know the word 'savoury oats' makes half of you want to close the tab. I get it. I had the same reaction when someone in Bangkok made me eat congee for the first time and I thought it was going to be horrific and then I basically ate it every morning for six months. Same energy here. Rolled oats, cook them in a mix of water and a tiny splash of soy sauce instead of all water. While they're doing their thing, fry an egg — just a regular fried egg, nothing fancy. Chuck some spring onion on top, a few chilli flakes, small drizzle of sesame oil at the end. That's it. Done in maybe eight minutes if you're not being daft about it. The soy in the oats gives it this sort of savoury depth that you don't expect and it actually keeps you going properly, not that fake full feeling you get from sugary stuff. Verdict: dead good and I've made it three times this week already. Will I keep doing it? Yeah, probably until I wreck it by adding something mental to it.

never thought about doing oats this way but the congee comparison actually makes sense — might give it a go on a weekend, been trying to eat more stuff that's decent for skin and the egg + spring onion combo sounds like it'd do the job
